Finding Hope: How Behavioral Health Support Helped a Grieving Student Heal and Grow
At Variety Care Crooked Oak, we believe that every student deserves a chance to succeed in school and in life. That’s why we provide behavioral health services that support the emotional well-being of children and families throughout the south Oklahoma City area.
One recent story from our clinic highlights just how powerful this kind of care can be.
We worked with a young student at Crooked Oak Public Schools who had recently experienced the heartbreaking loss of a parental figure, his grandmother. He was navigating a deep sense of grief, and it began to affect his everyday life. In the classroom, he struggled to stay focused, was angry, withdrawn, and falling behind. His teachers and loved ones knew something was wrong, but didn’t know where to start.
That’s when he was referred to our behavioral health team at Variety Care Crooked Oak.
Support That Makes a Difference
Through regular therapy sessions, our team helped the student express the pain he had been carrying. He learned new ways to talk about his feelings and gained tools to manage his emotions in a healthier way.
As he continued therapy, his behavior in school began to change. The outbursts became less frequent. He started participating more in class and building stronger connections with those around him. With consistent behavioral health support, he found his voice again. He learned how to express his feelings, regulate his behavior, and rebuild relationships. Today, he's making progress, both emotionally and academically.
Why Behavioral Health Matters

Grief, stress, anxiety, and other emotional struggles can create barriers to learning. Without the right support, students may fall behind or feel isolated. At Variety Care Crooked Oak, our goal is to give students and families the tools they need to break through those barriers and build a strong foundation for the future.
Behavioral health care is not just about treating problems. It’s about helping each child become the best version of themselves, emotionally and academically.
Here for Our Community
We’re proud to work alongside Crooked Oak Public Schools to make mental health care more accessible to students who need it most. If your child is showing signs of grief, stress, ADHD, or other emotional challenges, help is available.
We believe in treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. That means understanding their environment, their support systems, and their goals. It means recognizing that healing looks different for everyone.
As we continue to grow and serve south Oklahoma City, our commitment stays the same. We will keep showing up for the community, one person at a time. Whether it's a child who needs help focusing in class or an adult who needs someone to talk to, we are here to support, empower, and care.
